Rema’s Stellar Journey: From Africa to International Fame and the Upcoming Trace Awards Appearance

Musician Rema, originally from Africa and known worldwide, arrived in Kigali to attend the Trace Awards on the 20th of October, 2023. He was warmly welcomed by the organizing committee and security personnel, who captured photos and the admiration of music fans in a unique manner.

The Trace Awards and Festival are scheduled to take place from the 20th to the 22nd of October this year at the BK Arena. The event promises to award various categories and captivate attendees with outstanding performances.

Trace Group has introduced the Trace Awards and Festival as part of its 20th-anniversary celebration, featuring prominent artists like Davido, Yemi Alade, Fireboy DML, Diamond Platnumz, and others from Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Rema made his debut in Rwanda in 2021, participating in a basketball game organized by BK All-Star Game and supported by Bank of Kigali. He also performed at a concert in November 2021 alongside local artists Mike Kayihura, Kivumbi, and Social Mula.

Rema gained international recognition with his song “Calm Down,” which was even praised by Selena Gomez. This hit track made waves globally and reached millions of listeners on Spotify, earning it a remix as an Afro-Beat anthem that resonated with a broad audience.

Since its release in February 2022, “Calm Down” has garnered over 674 million views on YouTube, solidifying its place in the Afrobeat genre. In May of this year, it achieved another milestone by entering the Guinness World Records for being part of the Official MENA Chart’s top 20 most-listened-to songs, eventually catching the attention of former U.S. President Barack Obama.
