MUHISIMBI’s livestock support enriches teen mathers, boosts economic growth

Teen Mothers, supported by the MUHISIMBI Voice in Youth of Conservation Organization, are increasingly earning recognition for their sustained socio-economic advancement,an achievement largely attributed to the organization’s deliberate provision of skills development and knowledge empowerment.

Their progress was prominently showcased on May 9th, 2024, in Kinigi Sector, where the organization, in collaboration with benefactors such as Ellen Hennecke, Bob, Aidan, and Logan, donated six cows to six Teen Mothers affiliated with the KWIGIRA Women Center. This intervention represents a strategic approach to livelihood enhancement through the allocation of productive assets.

Beneficiaries including Rosine Uwimbabazi, Patience Ayingeneye, and DINA Iransubije have expressed firm intentions to utilize these resources as instruments for wealth creation and community-oriented investment. Their perspectives reflect a growing sense of economic agency and social responsibility.

Rosine Uwimbabazi remarked: “I deeply appreciate the continued support from the MUHISIMBI Voice in Youth of Conservation Organization, which has significantly empowered us. The assistance we have received, particularly in overcoming poverty, has been transformative.
The cows provided will further strengthen our livelihoods. I strongly believe this initiative will foster economic stability for me, my family, and the wider community.”

Echoing her sentiments, her peers, including DINA Iransubije and Patience Ayingeneye noted that the organization’s Chief Executive Officer, Emmanuel Harerimana, has demonstrated exemplary leadership by directly supporting them with livestock.

They emphasized their commitment to utilizing the cows for breeding purposes rather than selling them for immediate personal gain, thereby ensuring long-term benefits for their communities.

A considerable number of these Teen Mothers, most of whom are under the age of twenty, report substantial progress in rebuilding their lives. This includes engaging in vocational training such as tailoring, as well as acquiring critical thinking skills that enhance their decision-making capacity and future prospects.

In his remarks, Emmanuel Harerimana expressed profound gratitude to the sponsors for their unwavering support, noting that such contributions play a pivotal role in enabling beneficiaries to thrive.

He stated: “We have received remarkable support from a diverse group of stakeholders, including Ellen Hennecke’s family, Bob, Aidan, and Logan. This collaboration has allowed us to strengthen an organization dedicated to assisting Teen Mothers facing challenges such as early and unplanned motherhood. In this initiative, we have distributed six cows to six families, along with seventy chickens, as a strategic measure to address malnutrition and poverty within their communities.”

He further emphasized the conditions attached to the support: “The beneficiaries are required to retain the cows strictly for breeding purposes, in accordance with agreed guidelines aimed at promoting sustainability and self-reliance.”

The MUHISIMBI Voice in Youth of Conservation Organization, while actively engaged in environmental conservation, places significant emphasis on improving the livelihoods of communities residing near Volcanoes National Park. Within this framework, special attention is given to empowering Teen Mothers through sustainable livelihood initiatives such as livestock distribution.

This program forms part of a broader portfolio of interventions undertaken by the organization, including the provision of sewing machines to support income-generating activities and enhance the daily living conditions of these young women.

Collectively, these efforts underscore a holistic development model centered on resilience, self-sufficiency, and inclusive community transformation.
