Rwanda and AFRICOM Strengthen Military Cooperation

The Commander of the Rwanda Land Forces, Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, held discussions with Gen Dagvin R.M. Anderson, the head of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), on military cooperation and ways to further strengthen their partnership.

The talks followed Gen Dagvin assuming his position, succeeding Gen Michael E. Langley as the commander of AFRICOM. According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence on X, Maj Gen Nyakarundi represented the Chief of the Rwanda Defence Forces.

AFRICOM collaborates with 53 African countries, providing military training, supporting security efforts, and countering terrorism. As part of this cooperation, in March 2024, Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF) participated in the multinational military exercise Justified Accord 24, held in Kenya.

This annual exercise is organized by the US Army’s Southern European Task Force Africa (SETAF-AF) together with partner nations, aiming to enhance joint military readiness and strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism operations across the African continent.
