Ingabire Marie Immaculée, a heroine in the fight against Corruption and Injustice, passes away

Ingabire Marie Immaculée, one of Rwanda’s most respected women and a tireless advocate against corruption and injustice, passed away on the morning of Thursday, October 9, 2025, after a period of illness.

The news of her passing was confirmed by Transparency International Rwanda (TI-Rwanda), the organization she had led for several years. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), TI-Rwanda announced:

“TI-Rwanda is deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs. Ingabire Marie Immaculée, the Executive Director of Transparency International Rwanda. She passed away after a period of illness. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends, and pray that she rests in eternal peace.”

Her Life and Background

Ingabire Marie Immaculée was among Rwanda’s most influential figures in politics, human rights advocacy, and civil society leadership, known for her expertise in governance and public accountability.

She began her career as a journalist, working with Radio Rwanda, while also lecturing in journalism and governance. Later, she shifted her focus toward justice and advocacy, becoming one of the country’s most prominent voices in the fight against corruption, injustice, and the misuse of public resources.
